Born in Cebu, Philippines, Xamantha Pearl Gales Descallar moved to the United States with her family at the age of one. Growing up in a bilingual household where Cebuano and English were spoken, she developed an early sensitivity to language and culture. Her multicultural upbringing has shaped her worldview and sparked her ongoing interest in learning additional languages.
She began her education in Lehighton, Pennsylvania, where she excelled in primary school before relocating to Spring, Texas. There, she continued her education at Irons Junior High School and Oak Ridge High School, where she immersed herself in academic, artistic, and STEM-related extracurriculars.
Education and Academic Honors
Throughout her school years, Xamantha displayed strong leadership and academic performance. She joined a range of clubs, including the Robotics Club, Science Bowl (where she led her team to third place), Yearbook Club, Art Club, Drone Club, and Biotechnology Club. She earned membership in both the National Honor Society and the National Art Honor Society.
Her academic achievements include several honors, such as the District 5 CYO Spelling Bee championship three years in a row (2013–2015), multiple Student Achieving Excellence awards, and the 2019 Academic Excellence award. Her aptitude in mathematics earned her special recognition in geometry, and in 2020, she took second place in the SCI: TECH Biotechnology Competition for her proficiency in data analysis.
She graduated from Oak Ridge High School in 2023, ranking in the top 10% of her class with Magna Cum Laude honors. Currently, she is on track to complete her bachelor’s degree early and plans to pursue licensure in microbiology, followed by enrollment in an accelerated nursing graduate program.

Xamantha's dedication extends beyond the classroom. She has volunteered in numerous community and healthcare initiatives. Beginning in 2019, she supported IRONMAN Texas by managing hydration stations for athletes. That same year, she participated in the 24th Annual Children’s Festival at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion, where she organized educational games, an event she returned to in 2022.
From 2021 through 2023, she contributed her time to the Montgomery Food Bank in Conroe, assisting in sorting, packaging, and preparing goods for community distribution. In 2022, she participated in the Houston Methodist Caring Teen Summer Internship Program, gaining experience in patient care, room sanitation, and food service.
Her other volunteer engagements include the Fall Festival in Conroe, where she helped design promotional materials, and the Family Gift Market event in Spring, where she assisted with parent shopping and logistics. She also participated in the Houser Elementary Breakfast with Santa in December 2022.
More recently, she supported environmental restoration efforts during a Service Learning Workday at The Gardens at Texas A&M University in 2024 and worked behind the scenes at the 2025 Science Olympiad in College Station. As of June 2025, she volunteers at Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Medical Center, where she assists with patient discharges, kit preparation, deliveries, and facility support.
Language Skills and Cultural Exploration
A firm believer in the power of communication, Xamantha continues to deepen her language abilities. In addition to being fluent in English and conversational in Cebuano, she has studied Japanese both independently and through school, currently at the N5–N4 proficiency level. Xamantha is a creative thinker who enjoys expressing herself through the arts. Her interests include digital art, photography, and music. She uses digital illustration to reflect on personal experiences and share moments with friends, and her photography captures the everyday beauty of campus life and visits abroad. Cooking is another passion, often tied to her cultural interests, as she experiments with and documents a diverse range of dishes.
Her musical journey began with the recorder and piano, later expanding to acoustic guitar and ocarina. A lifelong love for the performing arts started with early dance recitals at the Kenlin Dance Academy, where she would often attend with her mother. She remains interested in dance, particularly Hip-Hop, and usually bonds with loved ones through karaoke, a tradition deeply rooted in her Filipino heritage.
